Antique Accordion Orchestra

Bruce Triggs, host of the Accordion Noir Radio show and author of the Accordion Uprising blog, maintains a collection of antique squeezebox instruments of various kinds and in varying states of disrepair, all over 80 years old. When the stars are right, he loads them up in a car and brings them to a venue to be operated by total accordion novices who don’t know a button from a bellow. Following a simple program of single-word guidelines, the performers take turns attempting to interpret their instruction on the strange machine in their hands. The resultant noises, more a performance art soundscape than a musical performance, are sonic blueprints of stumbling exploration and interpretation.

Its performances have included:

  • Sept 6, 2011, at Accordion Hallucinations
  • Mar 23, 2012, opening for A Cedar Suede
